Train for the Dino Dash!

With coaching by the University of Calgary Dinos Distance coach and 2016 Olympian Jessica O'Connell! 

Training Includes:

  • 8 week training program (3-5 runs/week) Beginner and advanced 5km and 10km options are available. 

  • Monthly Zoom calls with Coach Jess to discuss race strategy, training principles, footwear/gear, nutrition and Q & A (3 calls total)

  • Access to a private group message board where Coach Jess can answer questions 

  • Educational resources on pacing, warm up, and recovery

  • Post-race meet up in the beer garden! 

Price: $125 + GST which INCLUDES Dino Dash race registration

Meet Coach Jess

Your chance to be coached by the Dinos varsity coach!

 

Jess is entering her second year as the cross country and distance track coach for the University of Calgary track teams and is excited to work with you as you prepare for a great race at the Dino Dash, a major fundraiser for the team.

 

 Jess is a Dinos alumni and has represented Canada on 15 national teams in Track, Cross Country, and Road Running, highlighted by the 2016 Olympic Games. Off the track, she holds a MSc in Exercise Science.

 

Outside of Dinos coaching, Jess  co-owns and operates Grit Coaching, an online run and strength coaching business and has worked with individuals of all levels targeting a range of endurance events. Poke around our website for more info!

FAQ

What level of running do I need to be at to participate?

Any level! This program is suitable for all.

How many times a week do I need to run?

The plan will include 3-5 runs/week, depending on whether you choose beginner or advanced level.

How do I get my training program?

Training is loaded into loaded into your own personal account on Final Surge, a platform which allows for tracking training and analyzing progress.

I don't run at all right now! Can I do this program?

Sure! It's recommended that you sign up for the Beginner 5km.

I'm currently injured. Is this program doable?

It's best that you are healthy and capable of running before training for a race. Keep it in mind for next year! 

Are Zoom sessions recorded?

Yes. They will be made accessible to group participants after the calls, so no stress if you can't attend live.

I'm not able to participate in the Dino Dash but I'd still like to take part in the training and coaching calls. Is this possible?

Sure! Because this is a fundraiser, we'll donate your entry fee directly to the team. 

I've already registered for the Dino Dash. Can I sign up for this training program at a reduced price?

Yes-no need to double pay! The program will cost $75 + GST  without race registration.

I'd like more personalized coaching. Is that possible?

Absolutely! You can view our individual run and/or strength coaching options here. We offer a 20% discount on coaching for new athletes while training for the Dino Dash, and you're welcome to join in on group zoom calls.

Dino Dash Race Info

This longstanding fundraising event has contributed close to $100,000 to the U of C Dino track and cross country team.

In 2004, two enterprising University of Calgary students dreamed up this race to help fund the University of Calgary’s Dinos cross country and track & field teams. Since then, over $100,000 has been contributed to help provide scholarships, competition opportunities and uniforms for student athletes. Go Dinos!

What events can I sign up for?

  • 5km Run/Walk (including stroller and age group divisions)

  • 10km Run (including stroller and age group divisions)

  • Free Kids Run/Jump/Throw Mini Track Meet

Why you should come?
